Steve McDonald
Steve McDonald is currently a private percussion instructor for the Plano Independent School
District and is on staff with the
Plano Senior High School Percussion Program.
He graduated from the University of North Texas College of Music
in Denton, Texas, where he earned a Bachelors
Degree in Music Education under the direction of Dr. Robert Schietroma.
His marching percussion
experience includes the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps and the University of North Texas Drumline,
as well as the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, where he served as Front Ensemble arranger
and technician in 1993 and 1994.
While a student at UNT, Steve McDonald placed 1st in the
Percussive Arts Society Individuals Solo
Competition on marimba in 1989. That same Summer, he also performed as a member of the Disney
All-American College Orchestra in Orlando, Florida. As a Graduate Teaching assistant, he also taught
marimba and the UNT Steel Band and arranged music for both the Steel Band and Graduate Percussion Ensemble.
He has arranged music for many percussion programs in the North Texas area, including The University of
Texas at Arlington, Marcus High School, North Mesquite High School, Colleyville Heritage High School,
and Plano Senior High School. Many of his arrangements have also been published by
Rowloff Productions/Drop6 Media.
As a professional musician, Steve McDonald has performed with the
Dallas Winds and East Texas Symphony Orchestras.
As a steel pan artist, Steve has has performed with many local groups and artists such as Panhandlers Steel Band,
Sweet Steel, Len Barnett, Tom Ovington, Mike Bogle and is also in demand as a freelance solo steel pan performer.
