Athenaeum Collections
The information found herein serves as a supplement to the wondrous amount of enrichment information found in our musical world. Currently, the site is organized
in the basic classifications (1) DrumLab, (2) Workshop, (3) Speed Reading, (4) Bootcamp Workout, (5) Lore Workout, and (6) Etude Studies. In addition, a new collection of
supplements is found in the Lore Winds Workout for our wind playing friends.

DrumLab
"DrumLabs" offer some of our percussion curriculum exercises and rudiment settings with specific tempos to help develop speed and dexterity.
A DrumLab pdf presents all material in the lab. Audio play-a-longs offer a metronomic reference. Each audio play-a-long starts with a cowbell
tap off of “5 - 6 - 5,6,7,8.” Eleven different tempo settings are found in the audio collection that accompanies each lab. The different tempi
represent pillars of development with the following mind set.

Workshop
A supplement to our Drumline Audition Workshops scheduled throughout the spring semester, "Workshop" provides our audition workshop goals. The opening page offers links to
download drumline audition workshop goals for our high school groups (Clark & Vines) and senior high (Plano Senior). The high school link navigates to high school-specific
audition material. The Plano Senior High School links are organized into two pathways, snare/tenor and bass/cymbals/pit (front ensemble).
All links sequence our participants through drumline ensemble exercises (Basics Series/PDL Exercises), Rudiments, & Counting and Timing Patterns.
Considerations
Sound quality is most important, followed by rhythm accuracy with
good tempo, pace, and sticking management.
Levels are based on development not necessarily chronological or
school grade level.
Each DrumLab’s pacing is determined by each player. Rushing through
it without allowing skill development, mentally and physically, will
forfeit the intent and hopeful results.
The mind will understand the material much sooner than the hands.
Physically being able to achieve requires patience and diligence.
Level 6 (The 8th tempo) is considered the minimal tempo achievement
for a 9th or 10th
grade percussionist.
Level 9 (The 10th tempo)is considered the minimal tempo
achievement for an 11th or 12th grade percussionist.
Marching percussion auditioned positions utilize Levels 6 and 9 for
Vines/Clark and Plano Senior High School auditions, respectively, for
applicable material.
Without going into incredible explanation, advancing from one tempo
to the next trains the mind and body to place itself within a perceptual
motor task that is ballistic, like swinging a bat AND making contact.
Have fun drumming! Drumming is cool! "Swing that bat!"
